"Three Strikes...You're Safe!"
This article discusses the need for fire code enforcement and how to keep people and business compliant and safe. The author states that many times the code enforcement officer visits the same place numerous times for the same problem. The officer gives out a summons so the problem will be fixed but when he returns it has not been done. What the article discusses is a way that the enforcement officer can correct the problem himself. The idea is that after three visits where the person or business did not make the correction, the officer would make the correction himself. So the quote "Three Strikes...You're Safe" means that after 3 visits from the code enforcement officer and corrections are not made, they will be made for you by the officer and so...you and everyone and everything around you will be safe. P.S. They will send you the bill for the corrections!

"SCENARIO: IT’S 0710 HOURS AT
the station and you’ve just set
your gear by the apparatus;
you’re ready to start the shift and run
some calls. But ... are you really prepared?"
This article talks about firefighters and their gear.He states that even though they think they are prepared to attack each fire they really may not be. He stresses the importance of not only having your gear out and ready to go, but that all PPE(personal protective equipment)should be checked at the beginning of each and every shift. He discusses how to check each piece of gear. He states that there are things you can do to prepare, be ready and save time. You should check your own SCBA at the beginning of each shift. He explains that a door chock can be attached to your helmet with a piece of rubber from an inner tube and that straps to you gear can be pretensioned so you can just jump into them. He states that ALL firefighters that are on duty should have their PASS tags on the apparatus at the start of each shift so the the commander on shift can account for all members.

Reflection paragraph on sources
When I first got going with my blog I found it hard to find good sources that were right in what they were saying. By working with the fire rescue I found many sources that were not true that someone that had no fire knowledge would have over looked and used. But since I know what I was looking at it made it hard for me. The source I found to be the best came from the South Carolina fire academy it was very use full in providing great up to date information. I found a source on ebscohost to be trustworthy since it also came from a fire school in Alabama. The source with the most bias was Firehouse.com the article from (Martian) it talked a lot about his ideas of firefighter’s lives. This was also helpful since it gave me something else to look at rather than just sources with all facts.
Reflection paragraph on progress
During this search I felt good since this topic fits into my everyday life; also I felt that I was able to get the word out more about firefighters and the life they live. The parts I found in my blog to be easy were the basic common questions when I had harder tasks on my blog I had a few challenges finding good valid information that was the hardest part. I really enjoyed being able to do a topic that I am involved with I think It really made my blog stronger since it was coming right from me. I also enjoyed looking at different sites to find key information to better my blog. I did not dislike any parts of my blog experience, but if I could do it again I think I would have used a different topic but still involving the fire rescue. I just felt that others did not get too involved with my blog since it was not something they know a lot about.

Wordle # 2
I used this set of words to really show what I got out of doing my blog on firefighting and how it changes your life. I think also this could be a key to the lock for someone that does not understand my blog topic all too well. I mean by this someone could look at this wordle and get somewhat of an idea of what my whole blog is about.
Reflection paragraph on findings
In my blog I found lots of vivid information that really helped me get my blog topic out of the box. I mean by this instead of just the basic information I went deeper and told how firefighting changes your life. Some of the important facts I found during this came from ebscohost the best information on my topic, it was valid and very true with what was going on with firefighters life's. The most important fact I took away from this very detailed site was a graph of the life span of firefighters. It was very clear to others that may not really understand the life span of firefighters. The only thing I found surprising was that about 20% of the death rates on the chart I found came from (South Carolina) firefighters, And a few were from right here in Horry County. At this time I have no more outstanding questions. I feel that having done this blog it really shows that I am very lucky to be in a fire rescue helping people. It also makes me feel happy that I have the right at the end of A-shift to say I saved a life or someone’s property. I fell even stronger about my topic now and hope I can get others to come down my path and join a life saving career.

Finding Paragraph #3
Why do people talk down about the fire rescue? To answer this is hard for me since it is what I do. From my site Firehouse1 it told about a case were firefighters took a back seat to some type of car club just because the mayor of the city could not stand the fire rescue. Why do people talk down on us as the firefighters of their area when were the ones coming to help when no one else can. It is unfair for us firefighters not to have the right to a little respect (Acorn) -Fire (Chief of city that underwent the car club). But the part that really helps to show my point in this is that a few months later the mayors home caught fire. Fire crews were on location in five minutes from that day on the mayor never down talked the fire rescue. So why does it take us the fire dept to come and help you before you understand what we are not just guys that ride the rig and fight fires. (Gibbons) We have feelings for others (Perzan)
Finding Paragraph #2
Should firefighters be paid this was another question. As said by my fire chief if you don’t come to the house to help or save someone, something then the fire service is not for you. To back up this one of my sites (firefighter nation) said that firefighting is one of the best jobs a person can have and should not look for the money, but the chance to save a life. As said by FDNY Chief I do it because it is my LIFE. So is it right to pay firefighters such little pay for their choice of putting their life out for whatever comes their way. My next question was does vol or full time firefighters have a impact on people. As found vol firefighters sometimes have it harder people don’t think they know it as well as a full time firefighter would (Clark). But to answer this question vol firefighters go though the same amount of harsh and rigors training as a full time firefighter would go though. So if a vol company rolls up on the call of a full time the job is still going to be done the same way. (Mill)
Finding Paragraph #1
We have all heard the sirens and thought it is just the fire rescue going to help someone it is not a big deal. Well that answers my first question of how many people really have a heart for the ones risking their lives for them. (Kern) He also feels that many people want to help firefighters but do not know anyways to help them. Also from another source called firefighters life it told that many people will stand right in front of a piece of apparatus will fully in route to a call. This also ties into another question, why do people get mad at us when our response is slow? As of a book called (Life Lines ) says that many people get mad at us the fire rescue when we roll up on the call and it has been 30 minutes since they called 911. But in the end to answer my question it really is not us as the fire rescue it is the people that keep up from getting to a call. "People just do not move." (Martian-Firerescue1.com)

IN ANY SITUATION, WE STRIVE TO WORK IN TEAMS OF
A minimum of two firefighters. This is desirable for productivity
And for personal safety. However, whether we like it or
Not, situations will occur where a firefighter must operate alone.
Therefore, it is imperative that our skill set includes the ability to
Operate independently when necessary.
I chose this quote because it talks about the buddy systems which firefighters use and depend on in their everyday life on the job. It is always best to have two firefighters "buddies" going into a situation together so there is always help or backup. on occasion a firefighter must go it alone so he must be strong and confident in his skill set. this is where lots of training comes into play. when firefighters are not on the scene they are learning new techniques and practicing old ones so that what they do becomes automatic. This ties into my blog well because without your buddy things can go wrong fast and it cause you many injuries that can cause the rest of your life to be hard.

"If you see firefighters running, get out of there."
I chose this quote because it is very strong. By saying this I mean if firefighters are running away from the burning building that they are normaily running into then even the most brave are scared of something inside or something that is going on at the call. Also this quote ties back to my blog topic because at a point you have to stop and think about yourself and your family. By saying this you cant always save everyone or everything it may sound harsh but some things will have to go in order for us as the fire/rescue to be around for the next one that may happen. Plus you want to still be around for your family and others that you may know who love or have a strong heart for you. This quote came from a fire chief in califorina who was reminding people not to be so eager to run to a fire scene and watch what is going on because you just do not know what you might be exposed to.

For example the use of SCBA are now used to keep me or other firefighters breathing clean air. Instead of like old times they used nothing to keep their lungs clean.

This picture shows a firefighter at work fighting a fire with a inch and three quarter attack line. I chose this picture because it fits into the part of my blog were it shows how you have to have a lot of dedication to help someone and this picture shows this. In the back of this picture there are three people this firefighter is trying to knock the fire down and get them out. This really affected his life since he was not able to do that. So that’s why I used this picture.www.Firehouse.com
Quote, Paraphrase,Citation,Source,Analysis #3
When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. ~Edward F. Croker
For this article I choice to use this quote because it shows what my whole blog is really about. I say this because the quote says once you get into the fire service you are on your own for whatever happens next in the job. As he says what he does after that is all in the line of work. What he means by that is once you get in the rest is just a game you play you never know what will happen or how it will happen. Now saying this it really fits in well with my blog topic because it goes back to risking your life to help or save someone else in the danger zone. The choice is yours risk you life and save someone or something or just find something else not so risky. Like this quote says it is your choice to join but when you do it is on you something my go wrong but it is all in the line of work.

This photo relates to my topic because it is showing firefighters working on a fire which may be the last call they go to. This fits into my topic because it shows how it affects your life as a firefighter. This picture also shows what firefighters respond to everyday and never know what will happen till it does.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital with a back injury, according to a press release. Two other firefighters had minor injuries.
The two-alarm blaze was first reported at 5:59 a.m. by a passerby who spotted heavy smoke coming from the boat yard on Route 28 near the intersection with Putnam Avenue, he said. Within moments of that call, another passerby reported seeing flames coming from a building.
The first firefighters on the scene reported fire on the exterior of the shed, which extended into the attic. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, according to a press release.
Firefighters from the COMM, Cotuit, Hyannis and West Barnstable fire departments responded to the scene as did a crew from the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Red Cross. Other area departments provided support coverage.

Wordle
The reason that I chose to make my Wordle using firefighting words and topics since it fits in with my topic.
I also chose to use firehouse.com because it has a lot of valued information about my topic and it also can give many details about firefighters and their work. It also takes it piece by piece for others to understand.

What I already know about this topic
I know a lot about my topic because I do it every day. I know that many fear fire and what it can do to them or their homes. I also know many people do not really understand what fire is I mean by this they have never seen or been right up close to one. they have never been in a back draft, air becomes super heated and cause a push on the structure which causes an explosion, or flash over, when fire is hidden in walls floors were firefighters are unaware of its being it will in about 30 seconds turn black as night and the building will erupt in toxic gases and soon turn to fire burning anything in its path. I also know that some work hard and want to be in a service job helping others and risking their life while doing it. Like me but when you get going you do not think of yourself your on the person in the "danger zone"

What I want to know about my topic
I would like to know what people think of a job were you are helping someone and risking your life while doing it. I also would like to know why people who say risking you life is not good but when it comes down to something is wrong with them they are all for it since it is helping them. I think that if I could also find out what people say about firefighters when they are not helping them or someone close to them. Like we as the fire rescue are good while we are helping you but when it is all over were nothing but just some guys who fight fire. So if I could find the answers to this set of questions It would make me as someone who is involved with the fire rescue feel like I am thanked for my help at what ever the call my be that I respond to.

The story behind my topic
The reason I chose this topic is I am very active with the fire dept and think by making the choice to risk my life for others was a good one. I say this because I feel that if I can help someone then I will, even if I have to risk it all. I think that if you make the choice to work in a danger zone you have a lot of love, passion and dedication for your community. I feel that my choice has influenced others to copy me and do the same thing. As I did with my family everyone was in the fire service and still is. So to tie up my idea on your choice to join a service job were you know it may be the last thing you do is very strong because of my job in the fire rescue service and all the relatives that have been in for years and newcomers like me that just have been in for 3 years.
