March 15--CLINTON -- A Clinton firefighter was treated and released after falling through the floor into a basement while on the scene of a house fire early Tuesday morning.
Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton said firefighters were called after smoke was seen coming from the roof of a home at 622 S. Monroe Street at 6:15 a.m.
"The guys did as they were trained to do and extinguished the fire quickly, but one fireman did fall through the floor into the basement," he said. "He was treated and released."
His name was not available.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Milton said the State Fire Marshal's Office was called in, but a report is not likely to be finished until the end of the week.
Milton estimated damage to the home at approximately $20,000.
